Sweet Lorraine- Patty Griffin

When what came before you is so very tragic"

New Big Girl Bed

I'm moving into a new apartment at the end of the month (frequent updates until the actual move-in-date should be expected), and what am I most excited about? Well, having my own bed again for the first time in three months, OF COURSE! My excitement was yet again sparked anew when reading this fun blog post:

Big

I think about this movie scene from 1988s Big quite often. Nothing in particular really sparks the thought, it's just a recurring moment that I can't help but revisit. Beside the fact that I am in love with everything that is Tom Hanks, I think I just overall appreciate the movie's reminder to always retain your sense of innocence. Things can get really tough. Trust me, up till last week I had been homeless and jobless for over a month, but I think when it comes down to it every problem that arises is so much simpler to fix than we sometimes allow it to be. Though things won't always be okay, I think if we always maintain a sense of play and flexibility, things can be better. A lot of you have probably read this poem, but see here for what I mean. Before the characters of Josh and Susan fall asleep in separate bunk beds he leans down to give her a gift. "It's a glow-in-the-dark compass ring. So you don't get lost."

NEW JEW (Jimmy Eat World)

Though the official launch date is next week, you can listen to the full stream of Jimmy Eat World's new album Invented here. From the initial listen it may just be a bit better than Chase this Light, but what isn't going to be better than that piece of shit. These boys needs to grow back the balls they use to have. I just think they hit a fork in the road somewhere and chose to go the lighter, lamer direction. I really hope that this album is going in more of a Futures direction...that was the right choice.

I Can't Help It

Sometimes I get on kicks where I just watch choreography for hours at a time. Let's just start with the fact that I think Travis Wall is a brilliant dancer/CHOREOGRAPHER (maybe a little cocky...but his work speaks for itself), and Allison Holker has been touched by an angel with dance talent. That was my geek speak of the day. This is super great.

ARREST MILEY!!!!!!!!

I came across an article this morning about a certain song by Hannah Montana, the alter ego of Miley Cyrus, triggers seizures in a Florida teen. Thing is, I feel her. My body has a similar reaction whenever I hear the tweeny-bopper pop star. Only, my condition isn't so medically labeled.

L.L. Bean Signature

When did L.L. Bean get all kinds of precious (and legit wearable)?! Oh my, the new L.L. Bean Signature Line is very reminiscent of J. Crew for Fall. Disclaimer: Seriously, just because I'm promoting L.L. Bean in no way affiliates me with either lumberjacks or lesbians, despite the rumors going around.

Annie Hall (1977)

"Life is divided into the horrible and the miserable. The horrible are the cancer patients and the terminal cases... the miserable is everyone else. So, be thankful that you're miserable."

Match Point (2005)

"The man who said "I'd rather be lucky than good" saw deeply into life. People are afraid to face how great a part of life is dependent on luck. It's scary to think so much is out of one's control. There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net and for a split second it can either go forward or fall back. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you lose."

Latest Obsesh: KATY PERRY

I find myself enjoying many outlandish and embarrassing things in this life simply because even though I am a self professed really cool person, I cannot deny myself a little bit of the fluffy stuff to keep me sane. Enter exhibit A: KATY PERRY. As of late, I have been quite enamored with this rainbow colored pop princess. Her single "Teenage Dream" has been my jam since it was first released on itunes maybe three weeks ago, and it's sticking (PS: digging the video/video man piece). I cannot pin point my main source of infatuation, but after finding this picture maybe it's just that I appreciate the sense of whimsy and youth in everything she does. Trust, lately I have really been needing that touch of "whimsy" to take my mind off of how life is currently and consistently shutting me down. So, I was ecstatic to discover, this morning, the light-up dress she wore to this year's Met Gala (albeit 4 months ago)! I love things that light up. I was a lite-briting fiend as a child, and as an adult I am still in the market for a good pair of light up shoes that don't double as accessories for an exotic dancer. Today I reveal, as a competent college graduate, Katy Perry is officially a literal and figurative light in my dark unemployed and homeless life.
