It's Kind of a Funny Story

Tonight I took myself on a solo date to see It's Kind of a Funny Story. While the official trailer pegs the movie as a teen angsty romantic comedy, as I said to Riley on the phone tonight, with much chagrin, "IT'S SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT!" Truly, it was a very inspiring film based on the novel of the same title by Ned Vizzini. While it's a young adult read, the film revealed much darker adult undertones as displayed shockingly well by Zach Galafianakis. Galifianakis plays Bobby, a fellow psychiatric patient who immediately aids suicidal sixteen-year-old Craig Gilner, played by Keir Gilchrist, in adapting to his new in-patient lifestyle. I don't want to give anything away because I think everyone should see this movie ASAP. Cheaters can click here for a little more info than I am willing to distribute freely.
For the serious (hipster) moviegoers out there I will warn you of the couple sappy cliche moments (of which I didn't mind AT ALL), however, the brief moments are blanketed by strong, genuine performances, beautiful cinematography underscored by the music of Broken Social Scene and the like, and most importantly, simple and enlightening truths about life for you to pocket and retrieve whenever you find you've lost your way.
